Machine visibility

What belongs on a useful shop-floor machine-monitoring display?

Direct answer

Show the information that helps the floor respond now: machine state, active job or program, time in state, target versus actual, and the exceptions needing attention. A display should support a specific operating rhythm. More charts are not automatically more useful, especially when the audience is standing at a distance.

Practical checkpoint

Stand where the display will be used and verify that the next required action is understandable within a few seconds.
