How do I troubleshoot an intermittent CNC transfer at the port level?

Enable the DNC-Max port debug view temporarily and reproduce the problem. Unlike the standard activity log, port debug exposes the live data stream and errors seen by that machine port, which can reveal mismatched baud settings, framing problems, unexpected characters, or a break in the transfer sequence.
Practical checkpoint
Save a short log that includes the failure, note the timestamp and machine, then stop debug so continuous logging does not waste resources.
