How should I choose the collision step size in CIMCO Edit Ultra?
Updated
CIMCO Edit UltraCollision Detection
Direct answer
Collision detection samples points along the toolpath rather than checking continuously. A smaller step places checks closer together and can catch shorter interferences, but it takes more processing time. A larger step runs faster but can skip over a brief collision. Use a faster setting for an initial sanity check and a finer setting for final verification where accuracy matters most.
Practical checkpoint
Run a representative program with a known short-duration near miss at both settings, compare detection time and results, and document the final-verification value your programmers should use.
